2014 Guest Speakers Announced
We are very excited about our 2014 Blue Mountain Special Guests.
Our first guest is a legend amongst distance running coaches. Jack Daniels leveraged his coaching ability and knowledge in exercise science to lead SUNY Cortland runners to eight NCAA Division II National Championships, 31 individual national titles and more than 130 All America Awards.
Jack competed at the 1956 and 1960 Summer Olympics where we won team silver and bronze medals in the modern pentathlon.
Jack's Book: Daniels' Running Formula
Jack outlined his training philosophies in the book, Daniels' Running Formula. He mentors and coaches some of America's top distance runners. He will be discussing these philosophies with the campers.
Our second guest, Shalaya Kipp, is joining us from Boulder Colorado. Shalaya qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics by placing third at the U.S. Olympic trials in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:35.73. She beat her personal best by more than 7 seconds and achieved the Olympic A standard for the first time.

While running for the University of Colorado at Boulder, she was a 3 time Steeplechase All-American, 4 time Cross Country All-American. Prior to focusing on track and field, Shalaya was also a competitive alpine ski racer for 10 years.

Big thanks to our Campers, Staff, and Guest Runners for making BMXC such
a great week! Congratulations
to all our athletes who went on to run personal bests and win numerous
league, district, sectional, and state championships. See you next year!
We enjoyed another great week of Blue Mountain
full of running, great memories, and new friends. Camp serves as an important stepping
stone towards big personal improvements and team success! We wish you the
best and hope to see you again at Blue Mountain.
Blue Mountain welcomed 2012 Olympian Donn Cabral as our 2013 guest runner. Donn is an American Cross Country and Track and Field
athlete who has had most recent success in the steeplechase. Donn was a HS Footlocker
Regional XC champ, eight-time NCAA All-American, and holds the American
collegiate steeplechase record (8:19.14) among several other conference, school,
and state records. In 2012, he
qualified and competed in the London Olympics and finished 8th in the

Blue Mountain Cross Country Camp has been the premier camp for high
school runners since 1969. The
camp was founded to educate and motivate athletes in the sport of cross
country. Over 9000 runners have
benefited from the Blue Mountain summer experience. Camp Directors John Malach
and Dale Ladd invite you to take part in our tradition.
Blue Mountain is for runners of ALL ability levels. We cater our training to each individual
from beginners to the sport to varsity runners and teamp
captains. We have had first time
runners as well as Footlocker XC
finalists, and runners who have gone on to compete internationally in the
Olympics and World Championships. It
is very common for campers to improve after Blue Mountain - we help athletes
take time off their personal records, develop self-confidence and stay
motivated. Not only do we educate
them about their sport and the planning necessary to succeed in it but we
also nurture the same education and planning for all aspects of life.
Our staff to
camper ratio of about 1 to 7 allows each runner to get the individual
attention that he or she deserves.
All activities are supervised and each cabin has a resident staff
member. Our staff consists of
successful high school coaches / teachers and competitive collegiate and
post collegiate athletes from the Northeast. We also have a team of lifeguards as
well as a Registered Nurse on staff.
All campers are encouraged to get to know their counselors since
they are a source of great information and experiences. Many of our campers and staff form
great bonds during camp and it isnt unusual for campers to later become

Mountain Expanding Middle School Program in 2013
2011 and 2012 we had a small number of 6th, 7th and 8th grade cross country runners. For 2013, we are looking to
expand on this by having a training program geared towards running
shorter distances and having separate living areas for the younger
Our 2012 camp was an overwhelming successful week. 225 of us enjoyed
everything from the rural dirt roads and trails, to the outstanding
waterfront, to the many activities available including the brand new
fitness center with treadmills, bikes, and stair climbers. Some of the
highlights were Fawn Dorr and Ed Moran, over $1000 in givaways
from the National Running Center, the Best Dance Ever, and much, much
Our host, Camp Westmont, in Poyntelle, PA offers endless miles of well
groomed trails and rural dirt roads. We have found cross country paradise
at this facility. The soft running surfaces, beautiful scenery and
challenging hills make this the ideal location for a running camp. The
100 acre lake offers canoes, kayaks, waterslides, and a water trampoline.
